My review on Selena: The Series on Netflix

In 1997, Edward James Olmos and Jennifer Lopez starred in the amazing Selena movie. Fast forward 23 years later, Netflix hit us with Selena: The Series. And people aren’t happy. I’m not sure what show they were watching, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes some of the reviews made a point that Selena isn’t really highlighted in the show; that it’s more about the family. Well yes they are right; but we already know what happens in the movie. The show takes everything you knew about Selena and mix it in with her family which (duh) helped shape her future.

Some of my favorite scenes actually include Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla III, who helped produce and write a lot of Selena’s hits. In addition, you get to see more of Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla. Again the series is supposed to help showcase another side that the movie didn’t really show. Spoiler alert: I literally cried and yelled at the screen when Abraham Quintanilla gave Suzzette the number to a “fan” named Yolanda Saldívar.

So how well did the show do? According to a press release from Netflix, the streaming giant revealed that 25 million households watched Part 1 during its first four weeks. And according to cheatsheet.com, the show was in the top 10 list in 23 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Peru. For 26 consecutive days, it was in the top 10 in Mexico.

So when is Part 2 going to be premiere? You’re in luck because a couple of days ago, Netflix announced that part 2 will premiere on May 14!
