Jennifer Lopez to play Griselda Blanco, the “Godmother of Cocaine”

Cartel Crew Season 1 may be over, and the future of the show is up in the air, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have more of the Blanco family.

According to deadspin.com, “STXfilms and Jennifer Lopez are reteaming for a third time after Second Act and the upcoming Hustlers. The latest is The Godmother, her project about real-life notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, aka “The Godmother.” Sources close to the project tell Deadline that Lopez is looking at The Godmother as her potential directorial debut, though she is not completely attached in that regard just yet.”

I’m not saying Jennifer is a good or bad fit, I’m just curious how this is going to play out. However, the more I think about it, the more this may be perfect. I mean J-lo is Jenny from the Block! And she does have a good number of “bad-a**” characters under her belt like Enough.

And what did Michael Corleone Blanco, son of Griselda, have to say? He is all for it! He posted on Instagram with the caption, “So happy to hear this is going to happen finally!!, @jlo is una patrona it’s only right she plays my mother the late great ,GRISELDA, la meramera !!! If u think I shd be involved in this project let them know.” And to be honest, he should be involved. During Cartel Crew, Michael was very vocal about his family and what she meant to him and the world. Will the movie portray Griselda the way her son knew her?

“I’ve been forever fascinated by the story of Griselda Blanco and jumped at the chance to play her on screen,” said Lopez in a press release. “She is all things we look for in storytelling and dynamic characters – notorious, ambitious, conniving, chilling. In a genre dominated by legendary kingpins, I’m eager to shine a spotlight on this anti-hero and excited to partner with STX for the third time so we can bring this compelling, complicated story to life.”

The “Godmother of Cocaine” was deported to Colombia in 2004. Then in 2012, She was then shot to death in Medellin by a motorcycle-riding assassin.
