Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close

Although Hispanic Heritage Month did end last Tuesday, October 15, this doesn’t mean we have to limit ourselves on celebrating our influences around the country.

Here are a few highlights from the last month:

  • Pew Research center states that a record 32 million Latinos are projected to be eligible to vote in 2020, up from 27.3 million in 2016. The 2020 election will mark the first time that Hispanics will be the largest racial and ethnic minority group in the electorate, accounting for just over 13% of eligible voters.
  • The “yet-to-come” National American Latino Museum, had their first-ever congressional hearing on October 17. This long battle to open the museum has been going on for years.
  • Twitter came through with the custom hashtags for Hispanic Heritage Month (and Latinx Heritage Month). The eñe made sense to me, but for the Latinx hashtag, Twitter used a cedilla.

How did you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
